My Windows 8.1 Computer for Seniors is an update of the book My Windows 8 computer for Seniors. Ordinarily, for a minor revision of software, I would not recommend that anyone purchase an update. Usually the changes are minor and you can search for them as needed. In this case however, the author has added over 30 pages to the book. In addition, he has revised a good portion of the book to reflect the changes made for 8.1. In some cases the changes are small and in others they are much bigger.
For instance, some of the locations and titles have changed. Microsoft has put back a modified version of the Start button on the desktop. When you left click on it, it will take you back to the Start screen. When you right click on it a quick access menu pops up with features like shut down and control panel. There is an apps arrow that you can click on in the start screen that will take you to the apps screen. Several of the apps have been revamped and a few new ones have been added.
My Windows 8/8.1 computer for Seniors is a delightful book written by Michael Miller. It contains 20 chapters of useful material that you will need to know in order to master Windows 8. Each chapter in the book contains a list of step-by-step instructions for the task you are working on together with color photos and explanations of each step. While the book is designed for seniors it really can be used for anyone new users to computers since only chapter 10 (Senior Living Online) and chapter 19 (Making Windows Easier to use by Seniors) are specifically geared towards seniors. All the other chapters can be easily used by anyone. I really like the design of this book. All the pictures are in color and the step-by-step process includes an explanation of what each step entails.
