I teach social studies, math, and science portions of the GED and I like the way the book is broken up into easily digested sections and the pre- and post-tests are very helpful. The answers in the back are written well and help the student to continue the learning process after the test or problem is answered. The book seems to have been updated with all the latest 2014 GED standards and is very helpful in digesting the differences.
The book appears to be also using some new math at times. For instance I found it ludicrous that a bank does not pay compound interest even after 5 years for the sake of overly simplifying things. You might want to avoid this complexity, but don't throw a system at them that is illogical and not realistic. Compound interest is always compounded in real life at some interval—perhaps months, but not an interval of 5 years. They also have a few spots where they employ bad data analysis. They have the reader correlate the results from two graphs of data that are uncorrelated and has an extremely small sample size. The analysis technique is valid but not for this dataset.
Overall, I would say they did an excellent job of picking good variety of mathematical problems that help in the learning preparation for the GED. They also did an excellent job of stretching the student to interpret the many graphical and tabular datasets they provide—just not always realistically.
As a practicing scientist myself, I find at times that the science the book focuses on often seem to be politically motived rather than focusing on good science. The example at hand is global warming. They treat this as resolved issue, while the scientific community is still divided on this.
