Maybe it's just me, but right out of the box, I was a little grossed out by the ugly yellow plastic stand it's attached to - not a pretty yellow or a soothing Zen shade - more like pee pee or play-doh. And the plastic looks/feels very cheap like a dollar store child's toy. So I took a deep breath in, and held it until I could view it differently. Sure enough, the yellow started to change its shade, and peace was restored.

I opened this calendar on Saturday, 1/4/14, so I had a few pages to tear off. That's when my chi was again disturbed. You get a page a day M-F, but Sat/Sun share a page (half page each)? I looked more closely at the box, and nope, it doesn't say "Page a Day Weekdays Only" calendar. In fact it says, "Wake up each morning to the wisdom of the sages." But wait, the back of the box also shows images of both the ugly yellow stand and the shared weekend pages. Obviously there is no one to blame here but myself. The question is, am I really here?

The pages are on the thin side - you can see through them to some of what's on the next day's page. I choose to view that as Wonderful! Glass half full. Not only do I get to see both today's and tomorrow's (Sunday's) koan on the same page, I get a sneak peak of Monday's as well. That's how I know that "Every day I must say to myself, today I am going to begin."

Renewed in my commitment to achieve enlightenment, I open the easel piece to stand the calendar up. It's at least an inch too short, making it lean way too far back (about 45 degrees). There goes my vision of setting it on my computer hutch alongside my photo frames. Not only does it look like it's falling down (backwards) up there, I can't even read it due to the angle. I think it's because I'm not supposed to read it from below.
